there is no thing as a trail too smooth. It's like saying "I have too much money" or "my sled is too fast" or "my wife is too hot" or "my woodpile is too large",

Seeing as how this thread is being misunderstood as "snoway is against smooth trails" topic...LOL...listen up....
I am not.....just wanted to open up discusson on the cost of grooming WI trails and how the pot of trail maintenance funds are distriputed.
I may be wrong, but it sounds like a free for all where as long as you have a great team of ppl who are willing to keep the groomers rolling, like the 100 miler, you will get the largest piece of the pie available when things get divied up at years end.

With this system in place, I doubt most clubs/alliances are willing to only groom when neccessary because there is no guarranty that your competition for those same funds(other clubs) will do the same.

This sport is very expensive as is and as registration fees, out of state permit fees and other sled TAX ideas get tossed around, I think that how those funds are being used also needs to be looked at to keep more ppl from giving up on snowmobiling based on rising cost.

I am in it for the people and the joy it brings to the hard working individuals that are lucky enough to take time off, to enjoy a little slice of life in our little snow covered corner of Wisconsin. It is a place and time where they can forget about work and their troubles, and just relax and have a good time. A place that includes well maintained (groomed/brushed/signed) trails, because people don't need any new problems while relaxing in our Northwoods. Every bad thing that happened to me on a snowmobile, was either off-trail or on an un-opened un-groomed trail. I've never had one problem (except over-heating) on a well groomed trail. As an avid snowmobiler myself-- I know what I like, and I know what others like too, because they tell me. They like smooth trails. I hear complements after complements about how our trails are exceptionally renowned for being smooth, and that's WHY people ride them. I understand your concern about rising costs, but if you start to cut back on the reasons why people are riding our trails, you are going to have less people riding. Less people riding mean even less monies for funding and local businesses. Trail riding is supposed to be a pleasurable experience and hassle free. The more we can make it such, the more people will come. The more people come, the more people ride. The more people ride, the more monies for everybody. However, I am not in it for the monies, I am in it for the joy and happiness it brings our snowmobiliers riding the finest trails of the Northwoods.

Here is something you can share at your next club meeting

Post by Jim »

This just in...
On behalf of the snowmobilers in Forest County, I would like to thank the 100 miler for the absolutely outstanding job they have done on the trail system the past few weeks. It is nothing short of amazing to have trails this superb to ride. Every part of the system was groomed to perfection with nice wide trails, no matter where we rode. The surrounding clubs did a great job as well, but the 100 Miler is the cream of the crop. Every single person I talked to had the same sentiments. Winter was slow to arrive, but I think it’s here to stay for a while now. We will do what we can to support all the businesses on the 100 Miler trail system until the snow melts. Thanks again for the hard work.
You are welcome on behalf of all the 100 Miler! :coolcat:

Sorry, the 100 Mler is using too much money to groom. Maybe we should be using your money to build fancy club houses with indoor plumbing etc. like some clubs. Sorry again for grooming too much. We have no land, garage, clubhouse etc. We just groom too much.

Seems like I always hear people complaining about registration fees. These same people are out buying $13k snowmobiles every few years. Buy the $11k model and use the extra money to pay your reg fees. Stop making the trails nice because my registration might go up $10 next year? WTF??? This is a ridiculous subject. Johnnie and his guys do the absolute best job on the trails. They do it without fundraisers and fish-a-ree's. AND...they do it with a smile! They're always friendly and don't ask for anything! I feel guilty that I ride the trails and it cost's me so little!!!
People need to get their priorities straight!

Poll Added

Post by Jim »

I have added a poll to this thread based your original question:
Do you find yourself regrooming trails that in fact don't really need it, especially midweek?
But modified it slightly for more input:
Do you find regroomed trails that in fact don't really need it?
Perhaps, we should start another poll based on your other question:
Am I nuts for bringing this up?...LOL
Then maybe we'd find something that we could all agree with! ;)
