Just got off the phone with the Forest County Snowmobiler Coordinators office. The conscienous was not to open Friday as planned. We need more snow and some cold weather to freeze our swamps. Sorry, but keep checking for updates.
Already have, as well as the UP.....I don't care where,.... I ride... even if I got to commute outta my county of residence...oh well....only so many weeks to ride one more is way better than one less.
I agree it probably was the right call holding off on the trail opening but guys dont blame the 100 miler crew for this one:coolcat:
Blame the county!
I have heard the swamps haven't really froze up yet? with lack of cold temps after the thaw? i would hate to see that shiney new armstrong creek groomer burried in the swamp like it was one time
But i would also like to see a good base for a smooth ride all season!! yes i know the neighboring atv friendly club was open along time ago.. But who wants an rutted trail all winter because of the atvs ripping it up during the thaw?

You are right, I don't think anything is frozen yet. The mild temps sure don't help.

I was pretty sure they did, but I noticed the other day, they say there is none-- Meaning the ATV's can ride even when it's above 32°.

I certainly am not a fan of ATVs on snowmobile trails, yet I have ridden hundreds (if not a thousand) miles on the trails maintained by the club you reference and have had to deal with ruts for at most 10 miles of those hundreds (and if I recall they were from a 4X4, not ATV). Can't knock a club for grooming all year round and thus having the best early season conditions and usually the trails that last the longest come Spring.

I have ridden the same system also. Utvs do lots of damage.. I have to say the 100 milers trails hold up longer then that clubs due to no atvs. I have heard nothing but positives about the 100 miler compared to that local club. The blue ox does a hell of a nice job also on their trails.. I will head north into florence county before i go into marinette county as do many others

Not knocking the other club. They have one of the best if not the best summer atv trail systems in the state. The state just needs to change the funding formulas for winter trail system to snowmobile only. That way everyone has their own time on the trails and everyone is happy:thumbup:

I would love it if Northern Marinette would become snowmobile only in winter, just don't see it happening due to "assumed" potential loss of revenue. Of the 4 "Up-North" clubs I have ridden the most on in my life (Dun-Good, Florence County, 100 Miler, and Keweenaw Trail Services), I must say I enjoy Dun-Good and KTS the most. Each still has their negative(s) (Dun-Good being UTVs, KTS apparently not knowing how to groom in less than ideal conditions), but I absolutely love all the wide yet twisty FRs (or groomed summer roads in the case of KTS). But I digress and to each their own. Plus, best to keep Northern Marinette/Florence County a secret to continue their strong positive of less traffic than neighboring areas.
