Some Reasons Why the Trails Probably Won't Reopen
To reopen the trails we would have to contact several different land owners to open their gates. These are not farm gates but gates which are meant to keep vehicles outs. The US Forest Service, 2 different Connor families, Plum Cr, RMK, Cleermans, Forest CO. Forestry Alterton Farms, etc. Some of these land owners have several gates scattered out throughout Forest Co. Just count the gates on the NST alone. They would be reluctant to reopen their property right after locking their gates. They do not give us keys to their gates, just like you don't give us keys to your house. After we are sure all gates are open, then we could send our groomers out. All clubs in the county would have to be in sync to get all gates open and all trails groomed for a one weekend event. But the trails in Forest Co. couldn't still be officially opened until there is a notice published in the local paper and the local paper only comes out once a week! These are a few of the reasons it takes us a while to open trails in the fall. Also, these are some of the reason, we don't like to close our trails mid-season if there is a melt. It is too hard to reopen them quickly. If it were only as simple as grooming the fresh snow and letting you go at it.
I understand that opening the trails back up for a short run is not practical, but,
Its a shame the gates get locked up so quickly, with the chance that there could be ridable snow after a melt as we seem to have quite often lately.
The lack of snow alone will keep the sleds off the trails and most everyone who sleds also has a puter nowadays to check conditions,....seems we need an "on hold/closed" option where the gates stay opened til lets say 4/1 or later

x2 If I would have just look at the front of the site and saw there was 12" - 15" of snow I would have come up. Not saying that would happen but possible. With the cold nights and cold days coming through the weekend you might see this happening. Just a heads up.

Having snow is only part of the equation. There is little or no frost in the ground. All the swampy areas will be mush. The base is gone too. This snowfall would be a great 1st snowfall, it's not a good last snowfall. Plus, this wet snow will bring down trees and branches. It isn't worth all the hassle for 2 more days of riding. It is a shame, to bad we didn't get it in the middle of Feb.

I was just saying as stated above it would be nice if the cover page of web site said trails closed. Saying they are open will invite people up this weekend. About the gates being closed so soon, the land owners want them closed to keep trucks off their roads when their roads become soft and muddy. Kind of like putting road limits on in the spring. Once the trail loses its base and the ground softens we are done. Remember we are visitors on their land and we must keep them happy.

as long as there was snow on the ground . Before Clinton , Gore and the treehuggers :thumbdown: locked everything up .
