An uncle and I headed up this morning for a scouting and testbeat trip. We started out where LMT8 goes east from the railroad grade (end of Padus rd, halfway between Wabeno and Laona); went north to Laona then #9sw past Silver Lake, right at intersection 26, followed by a right turn at intersection 19 up past the sled dog training area continuing north to intersection 31, hang a right toward Cavour (that road is one of the finest in snowmobiling). Once the road portion of trail had ended the going got very rough- that section of trail is in absolutely horrible condition. It would take better than 6" of heavy, wet snow to make this section even remotely decent- and more snow could be had in ALL areas. We turned around and headed back for the intersection to head toward Crandon instead and somewhere in there around 80mph (I know.... I know... shame on me  ) or so I shucked the outer layer of my drive belt. I was afraid I wouldn't make it back because I didn't have a spare belt with me- the one I was USING was the spare. Not only that, this is the same machine that I had made numerous posts about back in November. For those who don't recall or are new, the motor is freshly rebuilt. I didn't ride very long at that kinda crazy speed- I just wanted to put a brief moderate/high load on it (I already had about 35 miles or so clocked by that time) and let it spin up over 7000 for a little bit. Man- there really is no reason why anybody needs anything bigger than a 600cc (in 2 stroke form). This is an 800, and it pulls stupid hard. Anybody wanna buy it?
Anyway- it's clear that there are still some absolute idiots out there that think it's their duty to spin and spray the snow out of every corner 50 feet out in the woods. If you see anybody exhibiting this kind of boneheaded behavior do us all a favor and throw their spark plug caps 50 feet into the woods. If you need a wicked fast machine to chase them down- I'll sell ya this 800.
Oh, and I did nurse it back safely to our origin without the belt coming completely apart. Total miles clocked since gas in Laona- 49.9 and an early end to the first ride of the season.
