Trails, hotels and gas stations!!

Just got back from Lakewood and am inclined to relay my thoughts on the weekend. First off we stayed at the Lakewood Best Western-------by far the cleanest chain motel I have ever stayed in-----and I have been in many!! Great job BW Lakewood!! We left Friday morning going east on the F trail heading for Wabee lake and then to Crooked Lake and then down to Chute pond. We met the groomers early in the trip and I can tell those trails our the best kept I have ridden----Outstanding job people!!! We curled around the West toward county T and north back up to Lakewood. All very nice, scenic trails!!!!! We fueled Friday at the Citgo on the west side of Lakewood. The 4 stroke FST Polaris ran like fire!!! Not the same the next day. BP is next to the hotel and let me tell you what-------that is not 93 octane gas I payed for!!! Both sleds ran really poorly on Saturday. Locals should press BP to prove there gas is what is advertised. How can there 93 octane sell for 2.19 and Citgo's go for 2.35??? You could smell BP's was not good gas. Saturday we went North all the way to Popple river. Again the trails were spectacular!!!! We left Larry's and went East on the Armstrong Creek trail. Sorry to say the Amstrong Creek trails have as much snow and base as anyone else but they were pounded. You could see the light snow on the edges which mean those trails were not groomed since at least last Wednesday------disappointing to say the least. What happened there?? We met Roger on the hill heading back from the River-------great job on those trails!!!! We got back to Wabeno and got 5 gallons in each sled at the Citgo there. Within 3-4 miles you could tell the performance difference in the Citgo gas and the BP--WOW!! Overall I give the weekend an A. The people, business owners and trail clubs get a hats off to a great place to sled!!!! Thank You!!!!:)

The difference between the Bp and Citgo is the Citgo gas has Ethanol in the fuel and the BP has switched to NO ethanol in the premium only. I fill my sled up two times a day at the BP and I'm sure if it was not good premium my DET light would be flashing along with my EGT warning lights. You may be smelling the difference between no ethanol and ethanol.

On a different note watch for the speed trap on the railroad grade just south of Townsend, I have seen people stopped for the last two weekends

Hey Snohawk how are you? Haven't talked with you for a bit! Please tell me more about this speed trap? Are we talking during the day time? If so I wasn't aware there is a speed limit in WI during the daytime, other then I guess if your going to fast it can be considered reckless..what am I missing here?

Toolman, I'm doing ok. The last two weekend we have seen the Oconto County Sheriff's going back and forth on the grade between Townsend and Lakewood after dusk ( 55 after dusk law ). On New Years weekend we had 10 sleds in are group and 4 of are younger drivers wanted to ride by there selfs. We were on the north side of Townsend and we stop in Lakewood for fuel before we get home, so I let them ride ahead and when we got down to the north side of Lake wood I saw a lot of red and blue lights flashing. Not my kids:) I thought I could cut the strings a little, but I think they will ride behind me:lol:

Saturday night Oconto had a group pulled over on the long straight south of Townsend and then after we pizza in Townsend I went past the trap:thumbdown: there is a small clearing that they back into, SO WATCH OUT AT NIGHT. I'm glad I was too cold to go much faster then 50.

We were up on Jan. 3 and had crossed hwy 32 on the north end of town.
their is a road crossing 40ft. from the hwy. and we were stopped by two officers for not coming to a complete stop for the road.
They can see you for a ways from that point, on the grade and crossings.

Yikes! I certainly don't want to have any "friendly chats" with any officers of the law. Thanks for the warnings about the dusk speed limit and coming to a complete stop.

Went by those Radar dudes on Saturday night at about 7:00 just south of Townsend. 2 Ski-doos with the zip gun. I was with my son and we were puttering at 35-40. On the reply to the BP gas. Any of these 4 strokes will run on 87 octane--------with lower performance accordingly. Polaris ramps the timing back and adds fuel. You aren't gonna get any CEL lights from that on Polaris!!! I can't speak for any other brands. All I can tell you is what I observed and I have been on sleds for 25 years and 4 strokes for 3 years. Nuff said.

You know, I have read all these posts and I have to point out the obvious... No one should be startled by the Oconto County Sherriff taking radar at night. 55 means 55 and it shouldn't be that surprising that they might be watching for this in areas where there is a lot of traffic and the trail is wide enough for them to do it safely. Why is this so surprising? And as far as Stop signs go...doesn't Stop mean Stop? You know if your driving your car and speeding or running stop signs and get a ticket well you know why, why is it any different on a snowmobile???? You know part of having the rights and priviledges that we have to snowmobile is to obey the laws that are set forth. Consider this, in Minn it's 55 all the time... do you want that?
