@ Snowhawk - don't know why, but that thought hadn't even occurred to me! (As I've not had my own sled until now, I've done very little riding locally - it's all been up at the family cottage.) I can see from the map that the county trails bump up against it in at least 2 or 3 spots. I'm not an ice fishing guy, so I've never paid attention to ice thickness on local lakes - 'bout when does Big M freeze over?

Man, I hope conditions here in the south will at least be decent, or that 300 miles may take (or at least feel like) forever! Thanks for chiming in!

I would check with the people at "The Hunters Nest" about Big Muskego Lake off of Durham and Woods roads. Watch the lake and only ride in the area that other sledders are riding on. The lake is big but there are some bad spots if you don't know the lake, again be careful and check with the other sledders on the ice. Little Muskego is alright to go but has a lot more people fishing but the sleds will be in one area by Idle Island park.
I myself would wait until you see a car or truck out the ice then it is pretty safe for a sled :)

I see you are from New Berlin you should come and check out a meeting at the VFW on Beloit first Tuesday of the month http://www.suburbansnohawks.com

I appreciate the offer. I have every intention of joining (though you know what they say about intentions...) My only real problem is one of time, being single with 2 kids, and hitting meetings on school nights, or working crazy hours to catch up when they're with mom... Had hoped to check out this month's meeting, but the above kept me from it... Do hope to make it eventually.
