Sounds like he was stopped by a Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer which is a little different then a State Warden. We have always had wardens, the US Forest Service Officers are something relatively new to the area. I think they generally enforce National Forest laws where the State wardens generally enforce state laws.
that's who it was--USFS--big man inna big green truck . sure glad i did'nt get a ticket !!! gotta say he was friendly enough , not like some that carry a badge .
good , bad & ugly
My understanding, was in years past, forest roads with at least 4 inches of unplowed snow were legal to run.
just got off the phone with a guy named phill barker , he's the recreational program manager for the USFS , johnnie's right about the 4 inch rule , the key word is unplowed . any road that's plowed , even if sporadically is considered plowed and not legal .

reason for gates
Well i can tell you this now and that is there is gates because it keeps people off the property from being hurt on their property. You cant literally think you have the right to ride where ever you want in the woods just cause theres snow you cant in the summer with quads so why is it a big deal to have gates so you cant go tear up private landowners property because you think you own it.
BRING ON THE SNOW !!!!!!!!!!

if your refering to the gates i was talking about , the're not gates on private property , the're gates across old logging roads & fire lanes that we've been driving for years . ride the forest roads this summer , you can't miss them , most painted red& white and nice piles of rocks & dirt across others . ride down lower dam rd south of mountain and you'll see what i'm talking about .
