I was in a local drinking establishment in Townsend prior to Christmas and I had some guys tell me (try to tell me) that they had done 300 miles in 4 hours, which at this point I am still not believing! My response was that they must have been riding on grades / straight aways where they could go 100+ for long periods of time to have their speed average out to 75 mph, which they assured me was not the case, that alot of it was forest - twisty trails. I know I can do 125 miles riding on those types of trails in about 3 1/4 hours by myself, and hearing that it took 14 to go from Wabeno to Hartford doesn't surprise me at all, I believe the norm is around 10. Am I wacked that I don't believe 300 in four hours?
A few years ago the club I was in helped two guys break the record for miles driven in a 24 hr period. They had a 5 to 10 mile course laid out on the lake and the corners where pretty straight. They put about 1500 miles on in 24 hrs 62.5 mph average and I know that they were going as fast the sled could go all of the time.
300 miles in 4 hrs must have been up in the UP on the grade in the middle of the week. I have a 100 mile loop around Lakewood and Townsend that I can do early in the morning when the traffic is lite, but most of the time with a riding with a group and stopping at the stop signs 35 is the normal average.
