Most websites I have checked on all say the same thing. No snowmobiling until after the late hunt. Here is the problem. Some landowners are hunters and if we force our hand too much either through the AWSC or any other means, we could anger some of the hunting landowners and lose our trail systems. If we just sit back and see what mother nature brings, we might not even have to cross that bridge. In Florence County it has always been December 1st through March 31st as long as there is snow. In the past 6 years that I have been grooming, I can't remember ever going out with the groomers before December 15th. All that being said, if we would have gotten the snow last week that Southern WI got, we would have a real dilema up here!!!

the other ? that has come up lately here in our corner of WI. is, at what point and by whos order does the sheriffs dept. start handing out tickets to early trail riders??
Is it the county trail alliances call that tells the local sheriff open or closed???

It's simple :rolleyes:: Trails NOT officially open are CLOSED..Riding on a CLOSED trail is trespassing (unless you own the property) Hmmmmm....You can get a fine for trespassing.
If you don't know if the trails are OPEN or don't know how to find out if they are OPEN .... STAY HOME...... PLEASE !!!!!
Maybe get INVOLVED with a LOCAL Snowmobile Club and County Alliance and find out what it takes to Develop, Install and Maintain a trail system that the general public has access to and constantly puts in jeopardy....
Snowmobile Clubs have a long history of excellent Landowner relations that have been, at times been stretched to near breaking by riders unable to follow a FEW SIMPLE RULES !!!
Personally I am NOT going to tick off a Landowner over a hunting issue.
I have rerouted trails in the past for rabbit hunting, pheasant hunting, horseback and cutter riding and also because the Landowner was just sick and tired of watching snowmobiles going back and forth in their hayfield repeatedly jumping a rise in the marked trail.
I could go on and on.........

being a snowmobiler is like being a fisherman/boater and having to wait for the lakes to fill up. and then if the timing is off, being told the water isn't wet enough to use.

Nicely put John. Did you finish your trail marking Sunday? We finished fixing the bridge Saturday.

Rumor has it Ozaukee Co. Sheriff's Dept was writing tickets and impounding snowmobiles for riding on closed trails last week.
Can anyone elaborate !!

News to me, but I live on the northern end of OZ Co. I will look at the local news paper and see if it was in there.

Anyone have any news on the UP trails. I was told that the munising area trails have been groomed and are in fair condition. Im thinking about heading up into michgain with in the next two weeks if they have ok trails to ride.
