Exactly the clubs have an input on this decision too, so it isn't just one man's decision. Also I thought when the trails are closed all of the gates are closed. How did sleds get to Mudslingers? If they saw a closed gate I think that would raise a question. I still can't believe Forest County closed their trails knowing a winter storm was coming. I would've liked to see the pictures of the trails Jim originally posted right after the storm. I hope the administrator is getting lots of emails and phone calls. The fat lady wasn't seeing because she was buried in a pile of snow!:eek:

The gates in the armstrong area were closed and locked yesterday.We only recieved about 6" and most of that is gone already,the spots that were bare are soft and muddy under the snow that fell.As far as I know Marinette and sawyer counties are the only counties open right now and marinette closes monday

Thanks for the tune from the FAT LADY now we know the snowmobile trails are closed for sure!!!! I can not imagine it can be any good riding in the slush over the mud that is left from yesterday. Its time to dry up for the ATV trails!! Thanks to all involved in the 100 MILER and surrounding trails you guys did one heck of a job again this year!!:thumbup::thumbup:

Langlade closed early, basically because the clubs didn't want to groom anymore. Vilas and Oneida closed March 31st because their landowner agreements ran out. The last couple of weeks in Forest County, because of the long season with no thaws, and the clubs using up all of the available funding, grooming was done less and less. Clubs didn't want to groom anymore, knowing they would not get paid, drivers were sick of grooming, we were losing base, surrounding counties of Langlade ,Vilas and Oneida were closed, it was already April, we have to make the decision early in the week, to get the required posting in the paper, so everyone said enough is enough. If you don't like the closing on April 3rd two years in a row in Forest County, I suggest you become active in one of the local clubs and become active.

I wish our trails could be open till April.Great job again this year with the trails!Had a great time up their as always!Great Kraut bombs on St.Patricks day Johnnie.

I was a member of the 100 Mile Snow Safari for a few years and a member of both 100 Miler and Tombstone Pickerel Sno-Club for a couple of years. I can no longer afford being a member in both clubs and Tombstone Pickerel helped me with a legal problem last year so now I am only a member of that club. I helped the 100 Mile Snow Safari brush their trails the past 6 yrs. and helped Tombstone Pickerel brush their trails one year.

One thing about open, closing, and reopening trails in Forest Co. which is different then most counties should be brought up. To be legal it must be published in a formal publication, according to our Snowmobile Coordinator, and the only formal publication in Forest Co. is the Forest Republican and it is only published once a week. So if the trails are to be closed, the Snowmobile coordinator much notify the paper a few days before publication,, and the trails are usually closed or opened on the day of publication. To reopen the trails, it would not be posible until the next weeks publication date. If you do not like this method call the Snowmobile COordinator. It is his method not mine.

Allow me to chime in for a moment of logic here.

The trail base was already toast before this last storm ever materialized- it wouldn't have made any sense to try to keep them open for another week because what snow did come is already gone. It simply wasn't to be, and we already had an extended length season to begin with, so we should all simply be thankful for that in and of itself.

On behalf of all riders who frequent the 100M system, our heartfelt thanks to ALL of those who put in the time and effort making Forest county such a pleasure to ride in each season! :thumbup:
