Trail

Post by townsend chris »

I rode the trail from wabeno to Benson lk. rd.
on Sun. a.m. it was in great shape, no ruts (see pic):)
We started going north from Ben. lk. rd. towards A.C. and it was very
rough and turned around , WE WERE A LITTLE EARLY because that
stretch was groomed later that morning (i was told).
A couple weeks ago I took the whole trail ,there was ( is?) a reroute
where the bridge was out, other than that didnt see any bad truck ruts:)

Wabeno Trail

Post by townsend chris »

As long as we are on that trail,
It looked to me that the the groomer driver(Rodger or Tennesee?)
Made an extra pass on the first part of that trail where the woods are thin
and the hills face the south, to pack the snow better to fight the March sun?
Is this the case ? Or have I been in the woods to much this week?    ;)
with all the complaining about the rough trails , has anybody considered that these trails may be groomed by volunteers and the're out riding too?
maybe "YOU" should join the chute pond or paul bunyan club and volunteer to do the grooming , then the rest of us would have good riding !
I believe Chute Pound PAYS there groomer drivers.I know they did in the past.

The Peshtigo Trail that I'm talking about was south of High Falls. I had no problem with it. The trails that are bad are in Lakewood. Poor grooming.
Yes I'm in a local club in the area that I live in. I help train safety classes, I'm the clubs county rep, and go to every monthly meeting, help with our races and help started our first swap meet this year. All snowmobilers are important wheather you come for the south or live up north. Without the people coming from the south, there is no business in the north. People will just go to another loaction that keeps the trails in better shape. The trails in Lakewood use to be very good several years but have gotten worse each year.
Thats the first half of the 100 miler trail from Wabeno to Armstrong Creek.
It is usually groomed late sat. night or early sun. morning
You catch it from the R.R GRADE . One stop sign, before the stop sign
at the gas station where the Wabeno groomer parks. Follow the road route (east)half a mile then it goes into the woods.
You can also catch it from L.M.T. (8 ?)
going east off the grade north of Wabeno.(about half way between wab.+Lao.)
Wabeno grooms up to Benson lk. rd.
Armstrong cr. grooms down to Benson lk. rd.
This trail is very scenic and have seen alot of wildlife here.
Thanks T.Chris! I'm there!

T. CHRIS
They are still hauling logs out just North of Benson Lake Road, so it it's not groomed up to that first forest road that branches off to the NE of Benson Lake Road. That stretch was groomed that day, (I'm not sure when) and was going to be groomed earlier, but wasn't because we had a driver that wasn't feeling well. And there still is a re-route due to a bridge being out South of town.

Snowdog, I hear you and understand completely! I've been trying to get more and more involved each year. I don't mean to complain so much about this, but it's so hard to believe that nothing was done. I have a place in Townsend that I leave my sleds at and can just drive up and go...but what about all the people that came up either alone, a group, and families that don't have the option? I saw a lot of families out riding this weekend...and what about the people that came here the first time? Will they come back? First impressions are important and the businesses in the area all need the business. When they have a winter like this it is financially very hard on them. Many of them can't survive just off what they get in the summer, I want to see them survive and do well all year.
