100 Mile Snow Safari Forum

Looking for a trail report. Will there be any snow left for the upcoming weekend? On the trails that is.

So far snow loss has been minimal. As long as the temp drops below freezing at night and it stays mostly cloudy during the day trails should hold up

Rode the area trails early this am and most trails are fair to good. This is SPRING RIDING, wooded areas are thin and conditions can change in a matter of hours, forest roads and grades are good too very good.

Keep in mind lots of riders and warm temps = poor trails.

I'm going to try grooming to Himley Lake tonight so check back in the morning I'll have a update. Roger

I decided to skip coming up this weekend, what a sad moment. Its prime time for the season and we don't have super trails. I figure with lots of traffic and temps above freezing all weekend the groomers can only do so much, we need snow and forecasts don't look encouraging. This sport is frustrating to say the least. Drive safe to those who go.

There are only so many weekends in the winter. By deciding not to use your machine this weekend, your chances to snowmobile are reduced by one of those few chances. The trails will be a lot better this weekend then they will be in April. If you are only going to use your snowmobile when we have SUPER TRAILS, it will last a long time and won't get much use.

Johnnie you are 100% right, if you don't use your sled it will last a long time.

I think that a lot of sledders are trying to find out how bad the trails are. Are you going to hit a rock with the carbide every mile or once in 5 miles. This would be very helpful more than if the trails are groomed or bumpy. When you have a sled studded you really don't want to bust everything up for a short ride, than if you have 5 sleds in the family the cost to replace the carbides for one day of riding could be close to $400.00 not to mention broken studs :shrug:

So if someone can say how many rocks are showing up in the trails that would be very good information, that will decide if one or five sleds are rode

Can't agree more but in my mind I am not busting stuff up just to say I got to ride. Its an expensive enough sport for the short time we have to enjoy it. Maybe thats why my 2008 only has 2400 miles, I ride when its good. Be safe.

I agree with Johnnie. In my opinion, if your concerned about wearing the carbides out on your machine you should probably just let it sit on the trailer and look at it and pick up a different hobby. They are going to wear out sooner or later and like Johnnie said the trails are going to be alot better today than they will be in April.

I am up here this weekend and we rode the entire 100 miler today. Started out at 8:30 this morning and had 100 miles on by noon. We are going to stay off the trails in hopes that they will stay decent in this warm weather. During the entire ride we might have been the 5th snowmobile on freshly groomed trails. Hats off to the groomers for a job well done. For those of you who stayed home this weekend.... you missed out!
