Did any1 else get horrible gas mileage this weekend? I got 60 miles to the tank, when i usually get 90, on my vmax 600..... Any1 else notice the same? warm weather??? bad gas in the area??? tell me your thoughts

My sled got great mileage sitting in the garage!

You were probably running warm due to warm temperatures.
Low snow can contribute to running warm and low mileage.

I got the usual 20+ when driving conservative and 16+ when letting it rip! Was out all day Saturday, Sunday Morning at first light and again late morning and early afternoon.

I got my usual about 10 MPG. Give or take a few MPG because for part of the weekend i was blazing a new trail through the backwoods which kinda kills the gas millage.

I think the motor had to work much harder. I thought I was going to run out of gas at one point!

I just sold a pair of these earlier this fall (a 94 500, and a 96 600), partly for that reason. Yamaha's twins were somewhat notorious for being pretty thirsty. That being said, ambient conditions have a pretty significant effect as well. When the snow is frozen hard and you're not sliding around in mush, you'll likely notice quite a difference.
My pair of MXZ800s seemed to be pretty thirsty too, but some of that could be expected from a monster twin. I was appalled when doing maintenance last summer to find #520 jets in those carbs! In fact I did run one of them out on the 100 Miler headed south toward Wabeno. Then I nearly wore out my dang shoulders (let alone my ticker) trying to get the thing started again- I'm tempted to look into electric start (IF I keep them).
MXZ583 (98) seems to do pretty good, and I've never made a good measurement of the 02 MXZ500- I would guess comparable to the 583.

Ill put it down as the warm weather/ slush, soft snow. although i didn't spend as much as the old man on gas, with his VMAX-4. But thats expected. All in all cant say i expected much out of the trails this weekend, they actually lasted longer than i figured.
