Planning trip 2-22
Planning trip 2-22
We are planning a trip to the Wabeno area. What are the chances the trails will hold up until then. The weather looks very warm.

That's a hard question. The temperature is going to be at or above freezing from late Thursday night into Sunday. If there is no traffic on Friday and Saturday I would say that they would make it but I have a feeling that many will be riding this weekend to get that one last ride in. There is not a lot of base left in the northern section of Oconto and south section of Forest to with stand a lot of melting. If also depends on the type of trails that you like to ride, grade or woods, the woods may hold up because it stays cooler and has some shade from the trees. It will be icy and very hard pack after Sunday and all we can hoe for is new snow to play on.

I was thinking the same thing but riding the weekend. Will be very warm which is good to keep the snow on the trail rather than the dust blowing off but at the same time the ice base that we have is minimal. Ive got some plans already for this weekend so might have to say I didn't get to ride the 100 miler once this year. :frown:

Leaving to come to Wabeno to ride. Are there any trails left. Looks like it's going to snow. A inch is better than nothing. (that's what she said) sorry couldn't help it.

You will find snow on the lesser used trails and forest roads. Looks like the temps finally dropped overnight. I will take a ride this am to see what is left.....pretty sure the grade will be the worse of all.

Ya I'm supposed to come up next weekend so interested in the reports to. Thanks for the updates.
Took the grade 4 miles north of Laona to the woods trail to Cavour then back on the grade for a couple miles north to the Cavour>Argonne trail. Took the road instead of trail back towards Crandon from Argonne then on Otter road to Margies road and the grade back south to Laona. 60 mile loop.
In 2 words....frozen slush ...the base is still OK for the most part. The groomers work miracles and they will have some snow to work with, just not sure what can be done unless they hit the frozen slush when it warms up and softens.
Best to wait and see what the pros have to say in the trail reports.
