100 Mile Snow Safari Forum

Looks like Marathon and Langlade are closing for a short time. Any word if Forest cty plans to do tge same. I feel that loosings a weekend of riding customers could yield many more following weekends since the base wont get tore up! Either way great work and be safe out there.

I understand completely. However rather than just closing gates post them as closed online and through normal news sources with maybe a reopening date. There will be those people that still go out but rather see a 50% reduction in riders who follow the posted closings rather than the normal traffic.

For instance the travel WI site which many people check for conditions, openings/closings etc posted the following for Langlade. I doubt they closed any gates.

Trails will remain closed until colder temperatures return. The Langlade County Snowmobile and All Terrain Vehicle Trail Ordinance prohibits any vehicle traffic on snowmobile trails upon their closure. Violations of this ordinance will result in citations.

We have a "warm up" every January, there will be an endless number of phone calls, a ton of posts on the web site, and a lot of people crying about it. Bottom line is nobody can predict how much traffic and how much the warm weather will harm the trails, but we will get through it. Trying to stop people from riding when it's warm out is impossible, they have a weekend planned and if the trails are still snow covered, they are riding. All we can do is play the waiting game and hope for cold temps and snow next week.
