While taking a brief stop in a bar from sledding on new years day, I met a man from the Kewaskum snow club. We were talking about grooming. He claimed their groomer used 3 gals of fuel per mile:eek: Is this an accurate statement? I don't know much about groomers (except I'm always happy to see one:thumbup: ), but does this sound like normal fuel consumtion?

I can't believe 3 gal per mile, but 1 gal per mile, or 4-5 gal per hour is realistic.

Had supper at the Rustic Inn in Kewaskum last night , the bartender said the
Kewaskum Snow Cheifs are out of gas money for their groomer .
if the're using 3 gals a mile , i can see why.

A lot of the small clubs in this area have old groomers and they can be quite under powered and inefficent.

I'll check the mileage next time out. I'm sure we get much better than that.

the Kewaskum snow club's groomer isnt that old from what i can tell when ive seen it on the trails this year.
they groom a little more than some of the other clubs but it still isnt that much compared to what you guys up there groom. some clubs even rent little tractors and pull the drag, like some of the clubs up there. but they are little tractors.
but 3 miles to the gallon is a little off i'd think, its almost got to be.

I checked with our guys and they thought like 5 miles to the gallon.

When we ran older gasoline Tuckers with 383 and 318's we got .7 and 1.5 miles per gal. I remember one gas Tucker we couldn't make a 41 mile trip with a 50 gal tank. We had to carry extra fuel. We ended up having two 50 gal tanks on that Tucker. How would you like to fill up with 100 gals. at todays prices!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, that was before my time, early 70's. But they were carrying extra gas and the driver was smokin' a big cigar!!!! It happened right behind the school in Wabeno, when they were heading to Arm. Ck., so they were full of fuel!!!
