100 Mile Snow Safari Forum

i just picked this sled up this year 01 edge xc sp, and went through the basic stuff before the season, and in between rides and what not. cleaned the exhaust valves, changed the crankcase oil, flushed cooling system, etc.

i just first really looked at the miles i get per tank, depending on the snow im riding in, and how easy i am on the throttle, i always fill up before it gets to the Res. reading on the gauge, which has 2 gallons of fuel left, but i usually see 80-90 miles. not sure on the tank size though, doesnt say.

but i just wanted to clean the carbs and go through the fuel system, new filter, does anyone have input on this on this sled or similar with carb cleaning? easy, hard or am i better off taking it in?

I've cleaned cards on a 99 500 and a 00 500 polaris. The carbs are just standard mikuni carbs with noting special. All you have to do is remove the air box and they are real easy to get to. Just remember if your going to move the mixture screws to count how many turns out they are so you get it back to the way it was.

did you fully dissassemble them, and spray it down with carb cleaner?

The 01 has a rack set of carbs. You need to take and remove the oil lines and then go though the front of the air box. The Polaris service manual does not recommend spraying the complete carb which could cause damage to the flat slide body o-rings. Try dropping the mains two sizes, my 02 I had dropped three sizes and was getting 14 mph when riding nice, I was also running premium gas and had etg gauges

well first off what is your engine size? if its a 700 or 800 then ya expect that kind of MPG. if its a 500 you could maybe get a few more out of it

I did take them all apart because then you can give all the jets a good cleaning. I let the jets soak in parts cleaner for a couple of minutes then spray them down compressed air. but you also need to check the floats in the bowls to make sure they move freely and there is nothin built up on them.

The 99 and 00 500 fugi motor uses round slide carbs and are diferent than the flat slides. Also you should check the carb sync

Those sleds only got 9-10 mpg.
Like someone else mentioned you can rejet the main down a couple sizes
if someone else did not allready do that.
That will help a little.
Those sleds also used a lot of oil , check the oil pump sync while
you have the air box off. You can cheat on the line up marks a little,
with out any problems.
Other than that, that should be a nice sled!!
