I read this same article in my local newspaper. It shouldn't affect the snowmobile trails, right? There are a lot of trails closed in the summer, but opened in the winter for snowmobiling because the ground is frozen and we can't cause much damage.

This can and will affect the snowmobile trails in the future. If a trail needs to be rerouted there will not be another forest road to use because this forest plan is going to put the existing roads back to forest conditions. There will not be any new logging roads.
WI will become like CA. forest fires and no roads to get in and fight a fire.
everyone should check out snoway's link and then go to the comment link.
I had attended the forest plan meeting in Waukesha several years ago and all I heard was how bad the woods sounded when people where X-C sking. So even though the article said nothing about snowmobiles, read between the lines. This will effect all ORV's:mad:

Please read the forest plan facts and questions. After reading the file hopefully you will want to comment on the three plans. The link to go directly to the forest plan [URL="

I didn't want to start an argument.

Maybe you are right, but when I am snowmobiling now I remember going through gates that are marked for "Foot Travel Only" in the summer. Another example is the Mountain Bay Trail. Closed to motorized vehicles in the summer, but open to snowmobiles in the winter.

There are three plans proposed. Look at all of them and also read the fact an question tab. I think that it may not help snowmobilers with plan 2 or 3. Plan 1 calls for no action, which is not going to happen
Closeed means closed

Once these roads are closed, they will be closed for any motorized use for ever, in all seasons. There will be no reroute options left to the clubs in the Nicolet.

What is the AWSC doing about this problem? Aren't they suppose to help keep the trails open?
