Ride planning

Post by Soooz »

Just throwing out there for some ideas- I am leading a group of women on a ride out of Carter this week. When I ride in the area it is usually alone or with one other person-so I am traveling at a nice pace- I will have 11 in my group. My planned route is to go South out of Carter to Lily to ride in the area by the ski hill then up to Argonne for lunch at Ed's. Drop down South and stop at Johnnies for a break. Then back to Carter-I have not had the time to preride this so I am kinda winging it-but I am looking for input on how many miles do you think that could be -I am looking to do just over 100 and time wise want to get them back before dark. They are many different levels of abilities in the group so probably not burning up the trails for speed.Heck any input would be helpful- Thanks! :)

Here you go. I made this route on the Polaris RiderX app, should be close. I did try this out on a trip to Rhinelander and it was very close in mileage.

If you went south out of Carter on LMT 2 to the Safari trail going west (corridor 16) to the tee intersection that turns to Lily.
There is some logging on the trail to Lily but the loggers have been keeping it snow covered.
When you get to Lilly at the grade you could south on corridor 9 and at the second intersection turn right.
That will that you straight west to the start of the Crocker hills trail which will go past the ski hill and up to the Lily club house.
You can then that the corridor 9 trail straight north to Crandon and the Argonne (If the weather is nice and you want to ride in the woods you could cut in off of corridor 9 by Frog Alley and take LMT 8 north also). That would be about 70 miles. You could then back track to Johnny’s or take the north loop to the NST and then back to Johnny’s.
Not that I have been known for taking extra loops.
It would be pretty close to 100 miles when you got back to Carter.
As far as time you are looking at about 5 hours of riding with 11 sleds not counting the stops.

Snohawk thank you very much for the response and info. I have tried to use the Polaris app but have not been able to figure it completely out! :-)
We did our ride on Wednesday and did pretty much what you suggested. We had great trails and such a good time. All of the women were from the St Germain Bo Boen club and they were very impressed with our trails-groomers do such a great job! But I did tell them please don't tell anyone what a treasure we have in Forest County with our trails- they can keep the heavy traffic up there! 😃

Took them up to Argonne to Ed's on their way back to St Germain- after lunch I led them to Hiles and they went back to St Germain- I turned around and took the loop towards Newald- what a beautiful ride! Then back south to my cabin in Crandon. I am home now but can't wait to get back on those awesome trails 😃
