Since I am finding it difficult to find a delaer who will let me test ride a sled, I was wondering if I could solicit opinions from users of this site. I ride mostly in Forest County and the surrounding areas and up into the UP. I am looking at purchasing a new (or used) sled this summer. I have narrowed it down to Ski-doo GSX Limited, GSX LE, Renegade Adrenaline (all 1200 4-Tec), or Yamaha RS Vector LTX GT.
I currently ride AC, but want to go 4 stroke and just don't feel like I get the same bang for my buck. I have ridden a Ski-Doo GSX LE 600 SDi and love the way it handles. I have never ridden a Yamaha. I was wondering if anyone has any feedback they can share. Thanks.
Sled purchase question
With two Yamaha Vector purchases (both used) in the last two years, I can say you won't be sorry with that choice. They are quiet, smooth, long haul champs. Very comfortable for long distance riding. One is an 06 GT and the other is 07 GT. Chassis change for 08 and up should be even better.
Downfalls: weight (they most definitely aren't light), and a few "common problem" areas but with a little proper care and maintenance you shouldn't have any issues.
Our riding (mixture of general touring, slow putzing and some higher speed grade running) seems to average anywhere from 17-20mpg.

I think you should find a different dealer. I ride Polaris and the dealer that I visit often had offered me to take his Rush's for a weekend last year to test.
You could also rent a sled from a dealer that rents and that may be the best way to decide. Most people are going to direct you to the brand they ride and all of the brands are very good, depends on the look you like and how the sled fits you and also the type of riding you do, if you ride in the UP off trail you might want to look for a sled with less weight. I would say to check out the 2012 Polaris line because they are coming out with a 136" crossover Rush, but it is a 2 stroke. For what it is worth my new Rush uses about half of the oil my IQ does. Good luck with your choice I'm sure that you will enjoy the sled you pick out

I have a 09 Ski Doo etech MXZ X. I LOVE this machine. The etech engine is wonderful. You get all of the advantages of a two stroke without the negatives. It burns virtually no oil and is incredibly easy to start. No smoke smell like conventional two strokes. I am getting 20 plus miles to the gallon. 24 mpg two weekends ago when riding with my son and 19-20 mpg when riding hard with guys.

Yamaha has a better warranty program overall so if you are buy that new that is something to look at. Although I doubt you will ever need it with a Yamaha. Also, I have heard that the 1200 4-tec is not all it is cracked up to be and Ski-Doo had a few problems with it (as well as their 600 ACE engine). The Yamaha chassis will last longer than the Ski-Doo chassis. Overall, IMO, if you are considering 4 stroke then Yamaha is the way to go. The final fit and finish is way better and they are by far the easiest manufacture to work with (as part of their warranty program they will give you up to $250 a day that your sled is being repaired for lodging and/or sled rental if you submit a legitimate receipt).
