It's politics between hunters groups and snowmobilers. This year, the DNR agreed to have a late season antlerless deer hunt Dec. 7-10. Therefore, alot of clubs are not opening the trails until the 11th. I am not a hunter, so I don't know all the specifics. I would assume it is for safety reasons. I don't make the rules, I just follow them.
Yeha supid deer season. I called everywhere and the trails were closed for the same reason. I really wanted to take the 1hr drive and run the trails but they were closed. One recording i heard said that their trails were closed because there are "idiots in the woods with loaded guns."
how exactly does snowmobiling interfere with the "deer hunt"?
If I had a loaded .38 with me everytime I sled, I could feed all the homeless in the city of milwaukee with all the deer i could cruise up on and "harvest" when i ride.
Too Funny:lol:  I dont think that the DNR would like that one too much. But I guess im not in the DNR so I dont know.

I dont' really think you have the right or any reason to call hunters "idiots in the woods with loaded guns". Hunting seasons are not regulated by hunters but by the DNR. If you don't like the deer season maybe you should talk to the DNR. You can always buy your own land to snowmobile on, but state land has to be shared.

I deer hunt and also snowmobile. I guess I don't see a problem with waiting till after the late gun season to hit the trails. We just finished our trails yesterday. I think we have one trail to sign yet. Plus we don't have enough snow yet to open trails 6 - 7" isn't enough. When we were out yesterday signing trails we did get stuck in our Polaris 6 wheeler however. And that was in 6 wheel drive! That was fun busting through the drifts. I am afraid that the snow will insulate the ground and not let the frost get into it. We hit some areas that had wet mud under the snow. We need to get a good frost into the ground before the snow hits!!

QUESTION? WHEN YOU TURN ON YOUR SNOWMOBILE, DOES IT RETURN THE FAVOR??

Things are starting to freeze up here now, but not all of the swampy areas of our trails up here in Armstrong Creek were frozen. There were parts of the trail we couldnt brush because of this.

Looks like we have some trail fever going on here. :o I think the fact that a pretty major system went thru and dumped some of us with some snow got the juices flowing, even though it's earlier than usual for any serious activity to start. We need a good week or two of some really cold temps to let the ground freeze solid before any significant precip should make its way north. Somebody already mentioned in a different thread.... patience is a virtue.
Can't we all just get along?

the trails will frost up faster with sleds pounding the cold into them....
yea we gots the sleddin' fever alright,...14" of snow in an all too neglected part of the state will do that.
took a 20 mile ride tonight to gas up the sled...trails had been riden some on sat. and sun, but they were drifted over nicely.
swampy areas that had been broken through were now solid as a rock....without sled traffic the snow would insulate these wet spots for a long time.
We now have an excellent base started....will it last????

hunt

I participate in both. The noise will wake you from a nice slumber, I mean concentration of the surrounding elements. I feel from a safety point you do not want to be in the woods when a rifle shot could to out, granted you should not shoot unless you know where the bullet is going. I do not partake in the late hunt.
