A.T.V. s Winter use of trails?

Post by townsend chris »

O.k. Here goes,
We have had some discussion of ATVs on the snowmobile trails
in winter. I questioned if Forest county had any Multi-use
(SNOWMO- ATV) trails this year.
It seemed that no one was sure.
I ran into A D.N.R. warden this weekend in Townsend,
and asked him about this.
He told me it is still undecided, but being considered
on the NICOLET trail (R.R. GRADE).In Forest County.
Problem was they werent sure if people would just use
ATVs in that area of trail, and not stray to other areas.
Thats about all he would say, or all the info he had.
Any info from those of you WITHIN THE 100 MILE SNOW SAFARI??????
Thanks,
T.CHRIS

ATV's This Winter

Post by Johnnie »

The only SNOMO trails open to ATV's in Forest Co. this winter are the Nicolet Trail from Laona south to Carter, and the Nicolet Trail from Co. Hwy O north to the county line just south Long Lake. The rail grade called the Nicolet Trail is the ONLY snomo trail open to ATV's in Forest Co.

ATV's

Why would you open up the grade to atv's.Just to go from Carter to Laona does not sound like much of a ride to me.I see atv's branching out on other conecting trails not meant for them to ride on.

ATVs

Thanks for the response Jonnie,
I would guess public pressure, and the politics of
the state funding program have led to this.
I for one am not happy with it. As we all
know wether we admit it or not
people will not stay on 2 sections of trail.
When there are many areas to branch off.
I have seen it allready on the south end
of the trail. Lets hope for the best and
learn to ride in ruts.

I see atv's out every winter riding on trails that are snowmobile use only. Seems they dont care much and we really dont have the man power in this area to inforce it.

I for one stopped riding the dungood trails because of the atv's. I most likely will travel else where if they by chance give them more area of the Forest county trail. I have and atv and a bike and I enjoy riding them, but I also enjoy riding my sled. I can enjoy my atv for at least 7 months out of the year if not more. I can only enjoy my sled for 2 if that now days, and I dont feel like putting up with atv ruts for them short 2months.

As far as I can see it we sux it up and dont ride all spring summer and fall, these atv's can sux it up and not ride for a few months.
