need more snow

Post by eschmitz »

I'm from south eastern WI and haven't rode trails down here in two or so years. I'm just as eager to get out and ride as anyone. Last year was my first time riding in Forest and loved the trail system and the area so much I bought land in Blackwell to get my outdoor fix. I'm not going to ride until we have good trails. Why spend the money to ride on crappy trails and ultimately damage them. There's other ways to support the local economy. I.E. Spend a weekend ice fishing and patronize the local bars that way. Just my two sense, Hold off on riding until we have good conditions NOT POOR.

Agreed. The photos that Jim posted from yesterday's grooming and gating efforts just go to show how much we still need snow. A few spots here and there may be ok, yes... but on the whole- it looks pretty poor to me. I'll hold off until some more snow comes.

I agree with you. From what I've seen, it doesn't look the greatest. I think that other fellow might be right too, I am probably spoiled. I've only been riding for the past four years, and we've had pretty good conditions during that time. I put on around 2,000 miles each year, with 2,374 last year. The one thing I came to realize last year, was that I really enjoyed riding well maintained trails, especially if they were freshly groomed. I always liked to ride wherever we groomed last. ;) Last year was also my first 'incident' free year. I learned in the years prior, that all of the bad things happened to me only when I left the trail! :( Keep the shiny side up, and the..

But I didn't want anybody to see a picture of the truck on the trail. You know how I feel about that! But on the grade at that spot, there might of been only 2", and thats BEFORE grooming. We'll be heading out here shortly (when Dick gets here).

A group of guys from around here canceled their trip up because of snow conditions this weekend. Sorry to all the businesses but we will be up in force in two weeks. Hopefully we have snow!

I wont be out on Forest County trails for at least 2 weeks if not more, give them some time for more snow.. Where heading up to Michigan this weekend and possibly next weekend to get our fix. I would rather ride good trails and save the trails back home. Hopefully we dont get much traffic then they will last longer so I can get some late season riding in rather then having them burn up by the end of Janurary.

Jim your not spoiled. I've been riding Forest County trails since I was about 6 when I road with the parents. We never owned a snowmobile trailer and never left to ride anywhere else. We would just leave from the house in Armstrong and hit beautiful trails. I use to put on over 3000 miles a yr like nothing, but now college keeps me in the city. I have to drive home to ride, I never did that before. Im to use to the conditions either, I use to have to dig my sled out most of the time just to get outta my yard when it snowed.

Hopefully, this is just a bad year for winter weather and not the start of a winterless pattern like down here. Here, the trails don't even get a chance to mature and I don't want to see that happen North. As soon as there's 3" of snow people ride them regardless if they are open or not. 2003 was the last year I remember that the trails were in good condition for more than 1 week. I wish I lived North, it sucks down here. If I can't sled, hopefully, I'll at least have a lake or two to ice fish.

I haven't been on the local trails except for maybe 20 miles total or so the past 2 years.
been riding the walworth/racine co.trails/ditchs down here the past 3 nights 30 to 40 miles each night...it really takes the edge off not being able to ride.
with only 5" of snow, the trails are actually holding up well.
There isn't much traffic and the cold weather has made a solid base.
With another 4 to 6" of snow and all my sleds down here at home , looks like I wouldn''t even have to drive north this year,,,,o well???
hope youse get enough snow to make youse happy....man its gotta suck bad to own a bar or motel and depend on the locals to keep your bills paid.
