Wisconsin going 55mph 24x7???

Post by Matt »

There was a post over at another site regarding a discussion a gentleman had had with a WI DNR official. He was informed that WI will be going to a 24x7 55mph speed limit. Anyone know if there's any truth to this? If so, Wisconsin has seen its last red sled cent from me. Speed limits are not the answer. Not a chance. Trying to regulate common sense only makes life more of a pain for those who don't lack it.

That is one of the most intelligent posts I've ever seen.
If they want to reduce wrecks- they need a SWAT team of breathalyzers for the dozens of idiots that sit in taverns all afternoon and then think they can BlairMorgan themselves around with a snootful. The more I think about that the more disgusted I get.
I guess the government should confiscate everybody's cars and trucks too- cuz they're total instruments of death, you know.

I hope you are wrong. I just e-mail my senator and assembly man and ask them about it and their stance on it. We shall see what they say. I will let you all know.

From what I understand about the 55 law is that this year is only a trail year and will get voted on by the Legislators this year which would make it a permanent law.

The 55 law has the blessings of the AWSC, which in support of the law. It will be very hard to change the minds of the AWSC that speed is not the only thing causing the deaths, Maybe ALCOHOL plays a biggger factor.

The DNR thinks that every accident is caused by Speed first then alcohol. When does ( S ) come before (A)? So if you our not inf avor of more laws call your legislators. I myself feel that speed is hard to place the blame for all the crashes, it is just not knowing your limits and how to handle each different condition.

I think the original poster over at that other site mis-understood. It's not that the 55 mph regulation would be in effect 24/7, it's that the nighttime regulation would become permanent. During the day, there would be no regulation.

As far as the AWSC goes, they're under the influence of the Tavern League of WI. The Tavern League doesn't want to see huge increases in the number of sledders getting busted for drinking and riding. Not good for business.

Maybe he had a snootful at the time he learned of the regulation!
