Northern Forest County Trails
Anyone know the conditions of the trails in Northern Forest County? We're planning a loop for tomorrow from Long Lake to Alvin to Hiles to Argonne to Newald to Long Lake. We were also thinking of going to the cafe at the BP station in Goodman instead. Does anyone know if it is accessible?

That's good. It was a bit rough earlier tonight. You can reach Stoney Ridge from the Marinette trail system that runs between Armstrong Creek and Goodman... just look for the sign.

Den & Ren's ?
Did I hear earlier in the season that Den & Ren's (I think that's the name) in Goodman/Armstrong Creek is closed ?? Can anyone confirm that. They had great home-made soup after a couple hours of riding. We haven't been up yet this season for any good riding but we'll be up this weekend. Gotta hit Johnnie's on Saturday night for Begos.

[/quote]They just celebrated 35 years in business. Their soup still hits the spot. They also have a steak sandwich that is awesome. And don't forget TACO TUESDAY!

:letitsnow: Begos... Hmmm - how do I describe this? I'm not the one who throws this 'party' but we attended it last year. Once a sledding season (this coming Saturday evening) at Johnnies, someone brings in a big pot of pork soup/stew as a thank you to the groomers and those of us who enjoy the Great 100 Miler. It definitely hits the spot!! Add on one of Johnnie's Kraut Bombers and you have quite the combo.
We might have to hit Den & Ren's for lunch and Johnnies for dinner after a day of what I hope to be the best sledding of the season!
Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow...! :letitsnow:

My wife and I ended up riding from Long Lake south through Newald and Argonne to Hiles and then back the same way. Newald to Argonne was the best section. We were the first tracks on a perfectly groomed trail. There were some icy spots though and where there was logging going on it got a little rough, but all in all the whole 70 miles was a pleasure.
We came across some coyote hunters in trucks by a road crossing near Argonne. We went down the trail a couple miles and a guy on a Ski Doo Tundra with no helmet and carrying a loaded shotgun passed us heading the opposite way! That can't be legal. He was all over the trail and did not slow down. Luckily we have Collett Communicators, so I could let my wife know to get off the trail as far as possible. Unbelievable!

How did you know his shotgun was loaded from passing him on the trail? Did he shoot at you?
Seriously, it's not legal to carry uncased firearm on / in a vehicle, loaded or not. You coulda called the cops or DNR.
