March 5 The Post-Crescent

CRANDON — An autopsy was ordered on a Kaukauna man who died as a result of a crash involving two snowmobiles on Pickerel Lake in southwestern Forest County on Saturday night.

Chad Vander Loop, 32, was killed in the crash reported at 8:42 p.m. The driver of the second snowmobile was injured, Forest County Sheriff Keith Van Cleve said.

Vander Loop was pronounced dead at 9:03 p.m., said Medical Examiner Debra Schepker. No further information was available. The state Department of Natural Resources is investigating the accident, Van Cleve said.

Ugh. I read that this morning and thought "That name is eerily familiar." His dad and uncle both have cabins on Lucerne. Never met Chad, but I know the family. :(

Yes, sad situation. Unfortunately it's not the first fatal collision on Pickerel Lake.

Saw the aftermath of one several years ago...big purple oil stain, little bitty pieces. I found a kill switch and a little piece of cable right out in the middle of the lake...sleds must've disintegrated. Couple were stopped on the lake at night for some unknown reason.

Went by the church today in Freedom and it was a packed house. Not a parking spot to be had in Freedom.
