Talked to two guys who were in the UP yesterday, snowmobiling on some back roads. They said there was too much snow!!!! It was really hard going!!! They are supposed to get lake effect for the next few days!!

It's illegal to use WI trails after they close if your on state land correct? All motor vehicals (ATV, sleds ect.) are forbiden on state lands after season closes? If your on private land and have permission giddy up!! Is this correct?

Also , is it legal to ride on fire lane roads?

Are fire roads off limits also?

You can run any road that is not maintained in the winter. If it's a plowed forest road, you shouldn't be on it.

As for the state and national forest land... don't get me started. It belongs to us. We should be able to ride it. For example, all those walking paths along the Sugarbush trail would make for some great off-trail boondocking if they weren't gated. I can see keeping ATVs out since they tear up the land, but sleds ride on a medium that melts. If the concern is litter, someone walking back there in the summer can just as easily leave pop cans and candy bar wrappers as some sledders. I don't get it. :thumbdown:

I did some calling up to Bayfield county and they said all national forest land is open as long as there is 4" of snow or more on the ground. Most of the fire lanes are in the national forest so you can run those as well.:p
