Road Magnets

For those of you that missed the meeting last night, we are discussing purchasing some road magnets to pick up metal objects (mainly studs) from the trail system.

We've had some problems with land owners getting flat tires from the studs.

There are two types of road magnets: with load release and without load release.

Load release allows you to turn the magnet off, to release the load. I think the load release would be the way to go.

They make several different width sizes of road magnets, with one that's 84" wide (7ft), but I'm not sure if that's too wide.

I think we should get three road magnets. One for each trail section (Armstrong Creek, Laona/Crandon, Wabeno).

I would welcome any feedback on this.

Happy Fall!!!!! Jim I didn't even know they existed!! That sounds like a great idea!! Are the mags strong enough to pick up something that small?

Now we just need to figure out what size!

i would just try one. 7 feet seems too wide for some trails?i would say 5-6. most people ride the center of the lane and not the edges. just a thought.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm sure that would help.

But keep in mind, a lot of people are running stainless (Which I assume are non-ferrous) studs these days. Fast trac is one popular stainless stud manufacturer that comes to mind. There are probably many more.

I think it is a good idea though, you'll get most of the stuff off the trail.

Someone else had mentioned it to me at the meeting, but I dont run studs, and really know nothing about them.
