I have a 2001 Artic Cat Panter 550 LC dual carb touring classic and having issues. Looking for help on figuring out the problem. My guess right now is fuel pump. But, here is the problem, idle is good, but if you slowly throttle up to 4K rpm (ie my son driving) and start moving at about 12-20 mph and 4K to 5K rpm it will go flat and if you keep the throttle steady it will just die like you shut it off. Hit the key and it starts and idles fine. If I ride it it is good except slowing in the corners going about 20 again it will start sputtering again like being out of gas. Give it and all is good untill about 60-65 and it will start sputtering again. I drained all the gas and put it 7 gal of fresh gas with carb cleaner and de-icer in the gas at the start of the season. Only have 30 miles on so far, about 3 gals of gas used.
I would have to say it does sound fuel related. Could be a fuel pump or possible debris in carbs.. How many miles are on it and when was the last time you checked spark plugs?
The part I am confused about is you say you can hit the key and it starts fine. This is No Choke I assume. You would think if you were out of fuel from a bad fuel pump it would not start right up again with no choke...
I would go through and clean both carbs. Make sure there is nothing stuck in any of the jets. I would also check the fuel lines and filter. Some sleds have the filters in the tanks.
your problem is carburation related. Sounds like a clogged main jet. If it idles fine while running on the pilot jet, and pukes at low to mid range, it's in the main jet. 20 minutes of carb removal, bowl removal, and spray all the jets out with brake cleaner and air, and you should be set.
I had to do the same thing with one of older snowmobiles i took apart the carbs i mean completely not just take them off and sray them, take the jets out and spray them clean the bowl make sure the floats work fine and when you put it all back together it should run great also make sure you run higher octane fuel if its anolder snowmobile you should run premium and always use iso heat and stabil when storing. If that dont work you might try moving the jets or even re jetting it.
