Signage

Post by toolman »

Jim,
I don't even want to say this, but Saturday I took the 100 miler heading north out of Wabeno towards Armstrong Creek for the first time! (hard to believe) It was excellent and I plan on doing it much more in the future! Anyway, there is one spot where I thought some signage would have been nice, of course know that I figured it out, I don't need them! I usually look for the orange trail markers that say 100 on them, just north of Armstrong Creek, there is an intersection, when heading north the sign is bent over away from the trail and somewhat hidden, I think it says Cavour and Newald 18 miles pointing to the left. The sign coming from the north heading south says Cavour and Newald 20 miles to the right, but there isn't any marking that say the 100 miler goes that way. It would be nice if it said 100 miler with an arrow? I don't think there were any of the orange markers either with 100 on them for a while in that area either. It's not a big deal, just a suggestion. I have a map so it was all good.

I can understand how when you are on them all the time it's easy to not realize things like that. There was one other place that you are probably aware of but I will tell you anyways. The map shows that after going through Armstrong Creek and heading towards Cavour / Newald the trail comes out on the grade about half way between them. I was planning on going to Argonne and then down to Johnnies so when I had the map out at the intersection as mentioned above I looked at the next intersection so I wouldn't have to stop and figure it out when I got there. According to the map you would head North to get to the trail to Argonne, which is what I did. As soon as I got to Newald I knew it was wrong. When you get to the grade where the 100 miler hits it, you need to head South to go to Argonne. After turning around and getting back to the intersection I noted that the signage was correct and had I read it instead of the map I would have gone the right way! Just noting this so on next printing it might get corrected. I know it's hard to keep up with changes everyear, just pointing this out thats all. It was a nice day for riding so I couldn't complain for the detour!

We'll look into that, and get that fixed. A friend and I signed from Armstrong Creek south to Benson Lake Rd for two days during our 'brushing day' and pounded over 40+ posts south of town to bring that section of trail up to 'my standards'. I wanted to get to the North section, but after two days, we had enough. But we'll get that northern section up to par, if I have anything to do with it!!! ;) And thanks for the info. These are YOUR TRAILS, so if you see something you DON'T LIKE or have any SUGGESTIONS, please feel free to let us know! :)

And it shows (correctly) the Blackbear Sportsmen's Trail intersecting the NST at Intersection 49, just south of Intersection 34. So, it appears to be correct on my map.

My map is a year or two old, I'll check it out when I am back up on Thursday this week. I thought the current map I looked at at Wild Rose wasthe same, but who knows! Your right the trail marking south of A C is Awesome! This was an intersection just north of of AC the only markings were for Cavour and Newald to the West and North to Florence County Trails. Check it out when you have a chance.
