Trails

Post by Roger »

I see no damage to the trails. We had very little or no rain and its turned colder so the trails are hard and fast. As far as I know the clubs are still grooming as needed.

Conditions Update

Post by Jim »

I just got back from a ride to the North. We got very little light rain yesterday. The base held up well. The trail is very hard packed and a little rough (not groomed), although it's still not too icy (surprising). There are some bare spots, but not too bad. There is nothing on the trail for lubrication or cooling, and I did have to pull over a couple of times because of over-heating. Parker will be heading South of Armstrong Creek later tonight, and the North will probably be done tomorrow. There is also snow in the forecast.

Check back later for Parker's report.

P.S. It was a beautiful clear night for satellite gazing!

Took a nice ride with Jim and one of his buddies today- trails are still incredible- at least between AC and Popple River. With any luck the warmer temps this week will be very brief and we'll get some fresh snow by the weekend.

Good deal. Glad to hear that! I would be interested in hearing from anyone that rode the RR Grade (NST) in the Newald/Popple River area in the LATE afternoon as to the conditions. When Keith, Paul, and I were up that way around NOON the conditions were EXCELLENT with no signs of washboards on the grade. There seemed to be more traffic late afternoon, and I was just wondering how the grade held up. But conditions seem to indicate they would hold up fine. Thanks.

I agree for the most part the trails were great on Friday:thumbup: until about 3 pm for me. I heard a grumble/grind and stopped on the trail. Had to drag it back to the edge of the road.:( Just under a 100 miles for the day after starting out from West of Lakewood. Took NST to LMT8 over the the 100 around and over to cavour. Broke down just of off Alderton Road. Come to see after getting it on the trailer that the fron drive axel broke in half.........how'd that happen. I am a family type rider and this is a '01 two up panther with only 3900 mi on it. Anyone ever hear of some thing like this? Were there any manuf issues in the past?

Now looking forward to the cost of the repairs.......:mad::mad:

Just came back from a weekend of riding.
Trails are still in excellent shape!!
There are some icy corners.
Areas to the south and east must have recieved a little more
light rain as they are more icy.
The L.M.T. section of the N.S.T is a little bumpy and low on snow
north of Wabeno to Laona
Other than that... the trails are great!!!!!
I consider it a bonus to be able to ride this late in the season.:)
Keep the fat lady from singing for at least one more week!!

It's Snowing!

Post by wheelerlake »

It's snowing in Lakewood! 1/2 inch on the deck and coming down pretty good. 132 miles Sunday, NST a little bumpy from LMT 8 to Wabeno, otherwise the trails were perfect. Saw a coyote last week on the dog sled trail south of Laona, first sighting ever. Crandon's signs are a big help, but they need one by the hardware store when you come to Hwy 8 by the yellow arrow sign. It's a guess to the newcomers which way to go. If I hadn't glanced at the map of Crandon posted on this site I wouldn't have had a clue which way to go. We're going to try to head out tomorrow for a ride, hopefully not our last. How about the $3.29/gallon (old Junction so. of Mountain), yikes, but that takes a bite.
Ride safe and thanks to all who make it possible. This has been an incredible season.
