Lightning Strike

Post by Jim »

They say lightning never strikes the same place twice.... but they never said anything about getting hit with 2 lightning bolts at the same time!!

We took a major hit(s) yesterday (Sunday). Thank goodness nobody got hurt, and the house didn't catch fire. :o

But it did manage to take out the T1 line, the T1 router, the SonicWall Firewall, a couple of routers, a printer, the land lines (4 of them) including the phone system itself, 3 TV's, 3 security cameras, 2 garage door openers, a stereo, 3 windows, some siding, part of the cement driveway, and blew every GFI outlet (12) on the premises, just to mention a couple of items.

It blew a hole in the electric meter itself, shattering the glass. It hit two trees at the same time, about 40 yards apart. The closest tree being about 15 ft from the house. It blew out holes in the ground where it traveled toward the house. It was just crazy the damage that was done.

However, I was able to get the T1 line repaired today, and a tech had to drive halfway across the state to pick up another T1 router.... but at least I got the server back up. Thank goodness, it was ok.

I do have a generator, but the T1 circuit was blown as was the T1 router. So, I just shut down the server, since nobody could get to it anyways.

Wisconsin Public Service came right out. But I shut off my main breaker, until I could get an electrician to come out and inspect my wiring, etc.

Both trees in same pic. Look to the far left, and you'll see the other tree. It's hard to see, but just above the driver's side view mirror. That's how far apart they are.

It shifted/lifted the driveway slab and bent the framing around the house garage door.
