100 mile trail markings
Re: 100 mile trail markings
I guess when you're not familiar with an area everything can be confusing. You get use to riding in one area you take for granted how things are marked. There are so many different trails around Pickerel Lake you could go in circles.

Whoops! Yeah, that's one of the corners to the North. It could use some chevrons on both sides of that one!!

Yeah I know excatly which corner that is! I've been off that corner along with a friend of mine as well!
I might have to get back to you on that. We can always use the help. Just hard trying to plan it. But I'll see what I can come up with. But I wouldnt mind getting that trail to the North up to par.

Jim I couldn't make it this last year to brush, but I would like to get involved next year. I'd really like to take a crew out from Diamond Roof Rd past the intersections with LMT to Wabeno and the next one to Windfall Lake. That area has a lot of hangers on it and isn't cut back far. When we did Red Arrow this year instead of doing as a group we set up crews and did it as we could....we should talk this fall.
Yeah I know exactly which corner that is! I've been off that corner along with a friend of mine as well!
It's on the forest road east of Hwy 139. Back in the woods a ways. It's like a hairpin turn at the end of two very long stretches. And if you're not careful, you can find yourself out of position going both ways on that one!

Re: 100 mile trail markings
There is a corner north of AC that really needs some better signage! If you were to go to the grade north of Cavor and hard back towards AC excatly 3 miles you will be at this corner! I have missed this corner at least 5 times when heading north out of AC. You come over a little rise and the area behind it is cleared so it looks like the trail goes straight, I am not sure if there are any signs that mark the corner far enough back to give you any warning. I know I am not the only one as when you missit the snow is completley packed down from all of the other people that have missed it!
Re: 100 mile trail markings
The place I mentioned last year is a Y intersection which is North of AC. The trail basically goes straight and there is a trail that goes off to the West on an angle, if you go straight I believe you are heading into Florence County and if you take the trail to the West that is the 100 which eventually ends up over on the grade coming out of Cavour. The trail markings at this intersection are not clear,
Ok, I have now had a chance to look over the signage at this intersection, there is both a yellow intersection sign and a sign that list two towns and points where to go. However both of these signs at 30 MPH are two hidden to see behind the tall grass in the area! The intersection sign is off the trail in tall grass a few feet and bent down. Anyway there are signs there....so I have to take back my earlier post! lol

This is for Toolman and the Red Arrow club. The trail that goes south from Valley Inn down to Animals down Forest Hill road on the west side of the road, should be marked someway that there is two way direction on the west side of the road so that the sled coming south stay right, I hate going north on that trail up the hill in the road.
My second thought is in the town of Townsend. south of the town hall is a (stop ahead) sign then you have a yield sign at the town hall entrance and then you hit the stop sign at the road. It seems that the (stop ahead) signs are placed for a trail in which the speeds may be around 70.
These are just some suggestions, I know it that alot of work to put the signs up every year, I also think that when you become familiar riding in one area you tend to not not the signs as much.
Stop signs, I think that they should only be used at a road, business driveway or trail intersection. If the trail crosses a driveway at someones house or unused forest road a Yield sign should be used. I know this will get some feed back, but why make everyone stop when it is not needed
