Burning down the trail!!!

Post by Pat1 »

I saw a sled literally burning down the trail tonight. haha

I was at the Backroads Pub enjoying some dinner when a guy came in and asked for a fire extinguisher. We went outside and saw his snowmobile was literally on fire!

Fortunately nobody was hurt. And hopefully the sled wasn't worth much or his insurance will pay for a new one.

WOW! That would be a sight to behold. As you said, thank goodness nobody was hurt. From the looks of your pic, it appears beyond any aid that most standard fire extinguishers could provide.

Looks like a FIRE cat! HAHA am I right on that pat, was it a cat?

But really thats a scary situtation and hearing that no one was hurt is always good to hear!! and hopefully the rider could salvage some parts to sell at least

Did you find out the cause? That could of been really dangerous if it caught the bar on fire, or another vehicle.

Been there, done that! Last March of 09 was riding with a friend east of Tipler 10 oclock at night. Was riding a 98 Polaris 700 xc with 9978 miles on it .Previous owner kept it really clean. While driving through a winding trail at 20 mph I heard a clink and the sled started misfiring and bogging down. I should have pulled over right away, but I limped for about a mile at 10 mph until I reached a flat clearing. My buddy said there were flames shooting out of my exhaust. I pulled over and noticed my exhaust was glowing orange! I opened the hood and we just stared at the pipes in amazement:eek: 30 seconds later whoosh! The entire exhaust was on fire with flames shooting 2 feet high! I knocked my helmet off the seat and dove into the deep snow beside the sled and threw handfulls of snow all over the machine untill the flames went out:cool: Unable to fix yet. Either a reed broke or fried a piston. I will fix someday; this sled is awesome:coolcat: Spent the rest of 4 day weekend driving the northwoods with my pickup:rolleyes: Good thing there are several casinos in the area:slywink:
