Took the grade 4 miles north of Laona to the woods trail to Cavour then back on the grade for a couple miles north to the Cavour>Argonne trail. Took the road instead of trail back towards Crandon from Argonne then on Otter road to Margies road and the grade back south to Laona. 60 mile loop.

In 2 words....frozen slush ...the base is still OK for the most part. The groomers work miracles and they will have some snow to work with, just not sure what can be done unless they hit the frozen slush when it warms up and softens.

Best to wait and see what the pros have to say in the trail reports.
Will the groomers be out tonight or is there just not enough to work with?

I'm not sure of the exact grooming schedule. I know you are in a bind in planning your trip. I'd say if your plans are set, like taking off work and all that jazz, go for it. Staying in Wabeno puts you on the grade and i'm guessing the gravel is showing through pretty good down that way because it is up north of there....Not sure if the trail up the hill across from the Citgo station is open this year....thought I heard somethng about it earlier this year. If it is open , that might be your best route out of town. Either that or the trail that t's off to the east at the next intersection south of the Citgo station. It heads north and hooks up with LMT8....sorry, no map in front of me for all the trail numbers.

The LMT trail 4 up the hill in Wabeno is open and in fair condition, poor in some spots.

Only about 3/4 of a inch of snow here in Crandon. We will be looking at our trails again Tuesday to determine what if any grooming can be done. Red Arrow has also stopped grooming for now according to their website. There is no talk of closing the trails, just waiting for new snow. A few people are out riding said for the most part trails are mostly flat, but very ice covered. Lack of snow to lube the hyfax was the problem, today's snow should help that.

Monday update

Snow reports are better east of Crandon with reports of 5" in Wabeno. 3" at Roberts Lake and close to 4" plus to eastern Forest county.

Both LMT groomers are out today and Tuesday and Wednesday also scheduled. Some areas groomed up pretty good based on groomer reports a few minutes ago.

Based on the above and other reports from Roger, Jim and Chopper, looks like a decent swath of snow. Did it extend at all south and north, and if so, to what extent if known? Looks like LMT and 100's trails will be back in decent shape, just curious if anyone else benefited so a longer ride can be accomplished.

Rode 139 miles today. Thanks for all the info. The majority of the trail were great. We rode from Rhinelander (Rented from Shroeder's) to Eagle River through Armstrong Creek to Wabeno. The only bad spots were near Eagle River. Looking forward to riding tomorrow.
