Needless to say, CenturyLink is having some problems with my DSL connection.
I've already spent hours on the phone with them. :thumbdown:
The network techs told me the problem would be fixed by tomorrow, but I won't be holding my breath. :sick:
In the meantime, I was able to mismash together a temporary solution to get the site back up. :thumbup:
The problem is with the static IP address that was assigned to my DSL. The static IP address is what allows you to find this site effortlessly by using the domain name (100milesnowsafari.org or snowsafari.com) which is translated into a IP address by looking up the name via DNS (Domain Name Servers) and obtaining the (static) IP address. And all of this was working fine for a few weeks.... Until all of a sudden, CenturyLink started assigning a dynamic (changing) IP address instead of my static IP (64.91.64.123). And when you call tech support, it's like pot-luck. You never know what you're going to get. I had techs tell me they saw no record of my static IP, that it was assigned to someone else with an inactive account, that it was assigned to my previous lower speed DSL connection. So, where are we now? That's a good question, that probably only time will tell. The problem is supposed to be fixed as of now, and the only way to test it, will be to reboot the DSL modem and see what IP address will be assigned. But I am somewhat reluctent to try it. Only because the site is up and running, and I hate to have it off-line again. But this is something I have to do, to correct this problem. Otherwise, everytime the IP changes, I'll have to manually update the DNS servers. And it goes to say... that I'll have to reboot the DSL modem, which will change the IP again (hopefully to my static IP). I've got an errand to run this morning, but when I return, I will reboot to see what's up and let you know.

I am still having problems with the IP address. And their tech support is a freaking joke. I just got off the phone with them again, and they are now telling me that my problem will be fixed by 5:00 pm tomorrow, and to wait until then. This is the same crap they've been feeding me from the start: We are currently working on the problem, and to just wait. Right. Like doing nothing is going to help resolve the problem.
I believe there's something else going on here, and I bet I'm not the only one that's having problems. And that's why it can't be fixed. Because there is a underlying issue here. It could be some sort of network config gone bad, or maybe some sort of cyber attack. That's why it stop working, and can't be fixed until this underlying issue is resolved. They try to make it sound like they've been working on it 24/7 since I first reported it. Um... I don't think they would have techs working 24/7 on this seemingly simple issue. And if their techs can't solve this simple problem.... then we're all in a big pile of poo!
No surprise. But CenturyLame still hasn't fixed the problem. Although lucky me, I'm back on the phone, and on hold again. Just the way I wanted to spend my Friday night! I just hope the 12th time is the charm. Or someone gets a clue...
The F'ing SOBs just fed me the same crap they've been shoveling out their pie-holes. They escalated the ticket and are working on it, and told me to give them another 24-48 hours. WTF? I *JUST* got done giving them another 24-48 hours. It's times like this, that make me wonder how we ever got a man on the moon or balanced the budget!
