Forest County 2/2 - 2/9

Post by TeeRoy »

Need honest opinion: Coming up Friday 2/2 - Friday 2/9 and staying around cavour?

Friday we head from Cavour down to Roberts Lake for dinner, how is it??

Saturday, make a run North to Tipler, Long Lake, ect., how is it??

Sunday, head towards Crandon, Rhinelander, and North to 3 lakes and end up in Long Lake for the super bowl, how is it??

Head out Monday with Saddle Bags through 3 lakes and keep going North into the UP for the rest of the week, can it be done???

This is the overall plan, is it doable or should we just forget it and try to replan for early March?? Thanks for any input!!

All of it is doable. The farther you go north and northwest the better the trails will be. Take it easy on the southern parts and all should be ok.

The grade near Long Lake has the infamous rocks showing through. I assume it gets better, (although I haven't checked), the more north you go on the grade since they graded the bigger rocks off and replaced it with a road grade material this fall. The trails in Florence County still are not officially opened, but they are allowing snowmobilers to use the grade (Corridor 9) and the trail past the Whitetail (Corridor 6). Bottom line is we need snow soon!!

Northern Forest County

We just returned from the great north woods and I will tell you, I have ridden a lot worse. The lack of snow leaves little for the groomers to work with but they are ridable.
We went from Alvin east to the Whitetail, (bumby in spots), then Northeast on the F3 trail, (The F3 is totally awesome!!), then we went west on corridor 2 in the U P. trail 2 totally rocked!!!
We went south on trail 15 to get back to Wisconsin. DO NOT waste your body or the abuse to your machine on trail 15. It was the worst I have ever ridden. 3 feet of snow MIGHT help that trail.
When we got back in Wisconsin the trail was freshly groomed all the way to Nelma.
Bottom line here TeeRoy is the trails are ridable but don't expect much considering the lack of snow.
Ride safe everyone.

The trails are now officially open in Florence County. Trail F3 that you talked about runs from Tipler to Pentoga on mostly forest roads and is also the part of Florence County that has the most snow right now. Trail 2 in Michigan is mostly railroad grade. Trail 15 is mostly a woods trail and needs a lot of snow. Bottom line is know where you are going so you can avoid as many bad areas as possible. Now is not the best time to try unfamilar areas.
