The NRB Natural Resources Board approved the DNR's purchase of the rail segment from the DOT Dept. of Trans. this week. As soon as the gov signs the deal, the already approved funds can be freed up so Forest Co. can begin work on the "missing link" of the Nicolet State Trail. Check back for updates. The beginning work of getting the trail from Crandon south as begun. I believe the Memorandum of Agreement between the state and Forest Co. has been signed and a public meeting is planned for April 6th, to determine the uses of the trail. Please check back, we may need your input!!!!
Thats great news.
Do you know what work is scheduled on the grade from Laona to the north on the NST?
Also where will the grade to the south of Crandon go ?
From Laona north, the trail will get brushed signed, the stone will be graded of, road gravel will be but on the trail and it will be rolled. Also bridges will be decked and railed.
The trail from Crandon south will connect at the county line with the new Wolf River Trail which presently runs north from White Lake to about the Lilly River Inn.
Forest County Highway Dept. will do the gravel, grading, and rolling. The bridges will be prefab. They will bring sections and and just bolt them on the existing bridge base.
Bridges are not in yet. They should go on bid this week. The trusses are there, we just need the caps, or decking and handrails. They come in sections and are easily installed.
